Middle Island (Lake Erie)
Middle Island is the southernmost point of land in Canada, located at 41°41'N, 82°41"W, or about 41.7 degrees north latitude. The southernmost part of the island lies a few metres from the American border. It lies in Lake Erie, just south of Pelee Island, and is part of Point Pelee National Park. It forms part of the province of Ontario. It is about the same latitude as the southernmost point in Michigan, and Mentor, Ohio, which is nearly that state's northeasternmost point.
The southernmost point of Middle Island is at a latitude of North 41°40'53". Twenty-seven U.S. states lie all or partly north of this point, as does Rome, Italy. Thirteen states are entirely north of this latitude (Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Michigan, Maine, Wisconsin, Oregon, South Dakota, New Hampshire and Vermont).

Famous quotes containing the words middle and/or island:
“So here I am, in the middle way, having had twenty years
Twenty years largely wasted, the years of lentre deux guerres
Trying to learn to use words, and every attempt
Is a wholly new start, and a different kind of failure....”
—T.S. (Thomas Stearns)
“I candidly confess that I have ever looked on Cuba as the most interesting addition which could ever be made to our system of States. The control which, with Florida, this island would give us over the Gulf of Mexico, and the countries and isthmus bordering on it, as well as all those whose waters flow into it, would fill up the measure of our political well-being.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
