Michael Palin: Around The World in 80 Days - Around The World in 20 Years

On December 30, 2008, the BBC aired a special one-hour documentary entitled Around the World in 20 Years. In it, Michael Palin goes in search of the crew of the Al Shama, the dhow which carried him from Dubai to Bombay (now Mumbai) some 20 years ago. After an extensive search involving the shipping company that owned Al Shama, Palin tracks them to the city of Mandvi in Gujarat. There, Palin finds the captain of Al Shama himself, along with five other members of the crew. Two of the original crew members had since died, one of them being the older man whom Palin had let listen to Bruce Springsteen on his Walkman. The production crew are the same people as on 80 Days.

Famous quotes containing the words world and/or years:

At most, the greatest persons are but great wens, and excrescences; men of wit and delightfull conversation, but as moales for ornament, except they be so incorporated into the body of the world that they contribute something to the sustentation of the whole.
    John Donne (c. 1572–1631)

Quintilian [educational writer in Rome around A.D. 100] thought that the earliest years of the child’s life were crucial. Education should start earlier than age seven, within the family. It should not be so hard as to give the child an aversion to learning. Rather, these early lessons would take the form of play—that embryonic notion of kindergarten.
    C. John Sommerville (20th century)
