Michael Lee White - Foreign Media Coverage

Foreign Media Coverage

Mr. White was interviewed by Guangzhou's leading newspaper, Southern Metropolis Daily, on September 4, for whom he provided a computer image of the lost/stolen passport in question, in addition to a family photo of his father's 85 birthday party from July 31 in Austin, Texas. The English language publication Shenzhen Daily also ran a story the same day. A Russian Newsweek interview with Mr. White from September 8 appears not to support the Russian government's accusation, and other Russian sites have noted the US State Department's confirmation of White's claim that the passport was reported lost/stolen and canceled in October 2005. Russian state television Channel One (ORT), however, appears to have repeated the government's innuendos against White in a 14 September broadcast. Several weeks later, an October 2008 article in the Chinese weekly magazine Southern Weekly summarized the chronology of events.

Famous quotes containing the words foreign and/or media:

There can only be one Commander-in-Chief. In these times, crises cannot be managed and wars cannot be waged by committee. To the ears of the world, the President speaks for the nation. While he is of course ultimately accountable to Congress, the courts, and the people, he and his emissaries must not be handicapped in advance in their relations with foreign governments as has sometimes happened in the past.
    Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)

One can describe a landscape in many different words and sentences, but one would not normally cut up a picture of a landscape and rearrange it in different patterns in order to describe it in different ways. Because a photograph is not composed of discrete units strung out in a linear row of meaningful pieces, we do not understand it by looking at one element after another in a set sequence. The photograph is understood in one act of seeing; it is perceived in a gestalt.
