Merck Headquarters - Solar Initiative

Solar Initiative

In 2008, Merck installed a 1.6-megawatt solar power system consisting of 7,000 panels on 7 acres (2.8 ha) of property. Among the largest installations at a corporate headquarters, the system is also the largest ground-mounted solar power tracking system east of the Mississippi River. In all, it will provide 7% of the site's power and is expected to "reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1,300 tons per year."

Famous quotes containing the words solar and/or initiative:

Lincoln becomes the American solar myth, the chief butt of American credulity and sentimentality.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

I am firmly opposed to the government entering into any business the major purpose of which is competition with our citizens ... for the Federal Government deliberately to go out to build up and expand ... a power and manufacturing business is to break down the initiative and enterprise of the American people; it is the destruction of equality of opportunity amongst our people, it is the negation of the ideals upon which our civilization has been based.
    Herbert Hoover (1874–1964)
