Death
Melvin "Mel" Powell died at his home in Sherman Oaks, California on April 24, 1998, after a battle with liver cancer. He was 75 years old. Powell was survived by his wife, actress Martha Scott, two daughters and a son. He was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in his wife's hometown of Jamesport, Missouri.
