"Fire Bull" Festival
The "Toro Jubilo" or "Toro de fuego" is an animal torture festival that take place in Medinaceli. During this festival, balls of pitch are attached to a bull's horns and set on fire. The bull is then released out into the streets and can do nothing but run around in pain, often smashing into walls in an attempt to douse the fire. These fiery balls can burn for hours, and they burn the bull's horns, body and eyes and cause tremendous stress – all while spectators cheer and run around the victim. Animal rights group PACMA has described the fiesta as "a clear example of animal mistreatment" and PETA as "a sadistic festival".

Famous quotes containing the words fire, bull and/or festival:
“Persons grouped around a fire or candle for warmth or light are less able to pursue independent thoughts, or even tasks, than people supplied with electric light. In the same way, the social and educational patterns latent in automation are those of self- employment and artistic autonomy.”
—Marshall McLuhan (19111980)
“To me heaven would be a big bull ring with me holding two barrera seats and a trout stream outside that no one else was allowed to fish in and two lovely houses in the town; one where I would have my wife and children and be monogamous and love them truly and well and the other where I would have my nine beautiful mistresses on nine different floors.”
—Ernest Hemingway (18991961)
“The surest guide to the correctness of the path that women take is joy in the struggle. Revolution is the festival of the oppressed.”
—Germaine Greer (b. 1939)
