Origin
Representative samples of flying foxes (Genus Pteropus) in the Philippines came from different islands of the country. The split of Pteropus species from their megabat relatives was between 28.37 million years ago and 34.63 million years ago. Within the Pteropus species, the first evolutionary event arose probably between 12.41 million years ago and 15.39 million years ago.

Famous quotes containing the word origin:
“Each structure and institution here was so primitive that you could at once refer it to its source; but our buildings commonly suggest neither their origin nor their purpose.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“For, though the origin of most of our words is forgotten, each word was at first a stroke of genius, and obtained currency, because for the moment it symbolized the world to the first speaker and to the hearer. The etymologist finds the deadest word to have been once a brilliant picture.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“There are certain books in the world which every searcher for truth must know: the Bible, the Critique of Pure Reason, the Origin of Species, and Karl Marxs Capital.”
—W.E.B. (William Edward Burghardt)
