He has done a series of TV programmes with fellow angler Mick Brown also known as 'The Duke of Market Deeping' or 'Sir Michael'. These programmes include: The Great Rod Race, The Greater Rod Race and Wet Nets. These are both about 30 day challenges from the west coast of Ireland, to the east coast of England. Famous quotes containing the word books:
“Like dreaming, reading performs the prodigious task of carrying us off to other worlds. But reading is not dreaming because books, unlike dreams, are subject to our will: they envelop us in alternative realities only because we give them explicit permission to do so. Books are the dreams we would most like to have, and, like dreams, they have the power to change consciousness, turning sadness to laughter and anxious introspection to the relaxed contemplation of some other time and place.”
—Victor Null, South African educator, psychologist. Lost in a Book: The Psychology of Reading for Pleasure, introduction, Yale University Press (1988)
“There are books ... which take rank in your life with parents and lovers and passionate experiences, so medicinal, so stringent, so revolutionary, so authoritative.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Avoid all kinds of pleasantry and facetiousness in thy discourse with her, and ... suffer her not to look into Rabelais, or Scarron, or Don Quixote
MThey are all books which excite laughter; and ... there is no passion so serious, as lust.”
—Laurence Sterne (17131768)
