Masoumeh Ebtekar - Education and Family

Education and Family

Ebtekar's father studied at the University of Pennsylvania, and she is reported to have lived with her parents in Upper Darby of Philadelphia for 3 years. Another source lists her as having lived in Philadelphia for six years as a child, where she developed "near-perfect, American-accented English." As a student in Iran she became a supporter of the political Islam of Ali Shariati and began wearing a traditional black chador covering everything except her face.

She holds a BSc degree in laboratory science from Shahid Beheshti University, a MSc and PhD in immunology from Tarbiat Modares University in 1995, where she still teaches. Like some Iranian people (this is a rarity in Iran), she has two names, she was named Massoumeh at birth, but known as Niloufar among friends and relatives.

Famous quotes containing the words education and, education and/or family:

Do we honestly believe that hopeless kids growing up under the harsh new rules will turn out to be chaste, studious, responsible adults? On the contrary, by limiting welfare, job training, education and nutritious food, won’t we plant the seeds for another bumper crop of out-of-wedlock moms, deadbeat dads and worse?
    Richard B. Stolley (20th century)

Individually, museums are fine institutions, dedicated to the high values of preservation, education and truth; collectively, their growth in numbers points to the imaginative death of this country.
    Robert Hewison (b. 1943)

True spoiling is nothing to do with what a child owns or with amount of attention he gets. he can have the major part of your income, living space and attention and not be spoiled, or he can have very little and be spoiled. It is not what he gets that is at issue. It is how and why he gets it. Spoiling is to do with the family balance of power.
    Penelope Leach (20th century)
