Margareta of Rawa - Life

Life

After her father's early death in 1442, Margareta remained under the care of her mother, while her paternal uncle Władysław I of Płock exercised her legal guardianship. In 1444 Władysław I married with Anna, daughter of Konrad V Kantner, Duke of Oleśnica, and possibly this was instrumental by a marriage between Margareta and Anna's older brother Konrad IX the Black.

The wedding took place around 1453. Margareta was twelve years old, and Konrad IX almost forty. Their only child was born in 1465, after twelve years of marriage. It was a daughter, Barbara.

Konrad IX died on 14 August 1471. In his will, he left Oleśnica and Bierutów to Margareta as her Oprawa wdowia. She ruled until 1475, when was deposed by her brother-in-law Konrad X the White, who put her daughter Barbara as the new ruler over Oleśnica and Bierutów under his tutelage until she was also deposed by him in 1478. Barbara died one year later. Margareta never remarried and survived her daughter by almost six years.

Famous quotes containing the word life:

Crime is naught but misdirected energy. So long as every institution of today, economic, political, social, and moral, conspires to misdirect human energy into wrong channels; so long as most people are out of place doing the things they hate to do, living a life they loathe to live, crime will be inevitable.
    Emma Goldman (1869–1940)

Eroticism is assenting to life even in death.
    Georges Bataille (1897–1962)

The clergyman is expected to be a kind of human Sunday. Things must not be done in him which are venial in the week-day classes. He is paid for this business of leading a stricter life than other people. It is his raison d’être.... This is why the clergyman is so often called a “vicar”Mhe being the person whose vicarious goodness is to stand for that of those entrusted to his charge.
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)
