Manitoba Liberal Party Leadership Elections

The Manitoba Liberal Party, a political party in the Canadian province of Manitoba, has chosen most of its leaders by delegated leadership conventions. Since 1993, the Manitoba Liberal Party has chosen its leaders by an open vote of party members, weighted by riding.

The party's first leader, Thomas Greenway, does not appear to have faced any formal opposition when he created the party in 1882/1883.

Famous quotes containing the words liberal, party, leadership and/or elections:

Sculpture and painting are very justly called liberal arts; a lively and strong imagination, together with a just observation, being absolutely necessary to excel in either; which, in my opinion, is by no means the case of music, though called a liberal art, and now in Italy placed even above the other two—a proof of the decline of that country.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

Pull out a Monte Cristo at a dinner party and the political liberal turns into the nicotine fascist.
    Martyn Harris (b. 1952)

The liberal wing of the feminist movement may have improved the lives of its middle- and upper-class constituency—indeed, 1992 was the Year of the White Middle Class Woman—but since the leadership of this faction of the feminist movement has singled out black men as the meta-enemy of women, these women represent one of the most serious threats to black male well-being since the Klan.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)

Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.
    Gore Vidal (b. 1925)
