Main article: Hate speech laws in IndiaSince Hinduism, India's dominant religion, does not have the concept of blasphemy, such laws are absent in tradition. In 1860, British rule codified Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code which punishes as hate speech insults or attempts to insult the religion or the religious beliefs of any citizen with deliberate and malicious intention to outrage their religious feelings. These laws are applied to all religions including Hinduism, Sikhism, Christianity and Islam.
