The Mandalay Palace's formal name in Burmese is Mya Nan San Kyaw (မြနန်းစံကျော် ; "The Famed Royal Emerald Palace"). It is also known as ရွှေနန်းတော်ကြီး, or the "Great Golden Royal Palace".
