Managed services is the practice of outsourcing day-to-day IT management responsibilities as a strategic method for improving operations. This can include outsourcing Production Support and lifecycle build/maintenance activities. The person or organization who owns or has direct oversight of the organization or system being managed is referred to as the offer-er, client, or customer. The person or organization that accepts and provides the managed service is regarded as the service provider.
Typically, the offeree remains accountable for the functionality and performance of managed service and does not relinquish the overall management responsibility of the organization or system.

Famous quotes containing the words managed and/or services:
“Writing, when properly managed ... is but a different name for conversation: As no one ... would venture to talk all;Mso no author, who understands the just boundaries of decorum and good breeding, would presume to think all: The truest respect which you can pay to the readers understanding, is to ... leave him something to imagine, in his turn, as well as yourself.”
—Laurence Sterne (17131768)
“The community and family networks which helped sustain earlier generations have become scarcer for growing numbers of young parents. Those who lack links to these traditional sources of support are hard-pressed to find other resources, given the emphasis in our society on providing treatment services, rather than preventive services and support for health maintenance and well-being.”
—Bernice Weissbourd (20th century)
