Revitalization Efforts

As of 2007, only one or two native speakers remained alive. The speakers belong to the Berry Creek Rancheria of Maidu Indians. As of 2004, active revitalization efforts were underway. As of 2011, classes in Maidu are available in Nevada County, California.

The Maiduan language family is considered to belong to the Penutian language group, along with such families as Miwok, Wintun, Yokuts, and Ohlone.
