Geographic Distribution

Most speakers of Maldivian live in the Maldives, where it is the national language of the Island nation. Maldivian is also spoken in Minicoy Island in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, India, while a few have migrated to Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and elsewhere in the state of Kerala.
