Location
Mahasarakham University is located in the province of Maha Sarakham, which literally means “City of Great Education”, an apt name since it hosts seven well-known and respected institutions of higher learning that include Mahasarakham University.
Maha Sarakham is 470 kilometers from Bangkok, the central city of Thailand and occupies a total area of 5,291.68 square kilometers. Geographically, Maha Sarakham is a vast rolling plain, composed mostly of rice fields with the Chi River flowing through it. Maha Sarakham itself has a lively atmosphere and offers a wealth of cultural and recreational activities to travelers and visitors.
As a regional “Education Center”, Maha Sarakham earned the name “Taksila of Isan”, (taking this name from an ancient Hindu Center of Learning in India). Maha Sarakham throughout its history has always acted as a center of Buddhist wisdom and culture in the region.
