Madeleine Bunting - Views

Views

Madeleine Bunting is noted for her advocacy of religious belief from a liberal position and her antipathy to atheism, claiming that new atheists' antipathy to religion makes it impossible for them to criticise religion effectively. Bunting has been accused of quoting Sam Harris misleadingly and Austin Cline claims Bunting's real concern is that critics of religion might be correct and criticism of religion might cause religion to decline even more than has already happened.

Madeleine Bunting has been very critical of abuse committed within the Catholic Church in Ireland and elsewhere in the world. Bunting believes the moral authority of the Roman Catholic Church is irreversibly compromised.

Famous quotes containing the word views:

The word “conservative” is used by the BBC as a portmanteau word of abuse for anyone whose views differ from the insufferable, smug, sanctimonious, naive, guilt-ridden, wet, pink orthodoxy of that sunset home of the third-rate minds of that third-rate decade, the nineteen-sixties.
    Norman Tebbit (b. 1931)

I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

Taught from their infancy that beauty is woman’s sceptre, the mind shapes itself to the body, and, roaming round its gilt cage, only seeks to adorn its prison. Men have various employments and pursuits which engage their attention, and give a character to the opening mind; but women, confined to one, and having their thoughts constantly directed to the most insignificant part of themselves, seldom extend their views beyond the triumph of the hour.
    Mary Wollstonecraft (1759–1797)
