History
Mack Bryggeri was founded during 1877 in Tromsø by Ludwig Markus Mack (1842- 1915), son of a German immigrant, businessman and local politician. He had been educated as a baker, like his father, but several trips to visit his brewmaster uncle in Bavaria led him to pursue construction of a brewery in northern Norway. As a result, Mack beers were, and still remain, a particularly German character.
A large portion of the shares are presently owned by Ludwig Mack's descendants. Mack Bryggeri claims to be the northernmost brewery in the world, a claim that is cited on Mack's beer bottles. In March 2008, the company announced plans to move production to Nordkjosbotn in Balsfjord municipality, after over 130 years of operation in Tromsø.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“Three million of such stones would be needed before the work was done. Three million stones of an average weight of 5,000 pounds, every stone cut precisely to fit into its destined place in the great pyramid. From the quarries they pulled the stones across the desert to the banks of the Nile. Never in the history of the world had so great a task been performed. Their faith gave them strength, and their joy gave them song.”
—William Faulkner (18971962)
“The disadvantage of men not knowing the past is that they do not know the present. History is a hill or high point of vantage, from which alone men see the town in which they live or the age in which they are living.”
—Gilbert Keith Chesterton (18741936)
“No matter how vital experience might be while you lived it, no sooner was it ended and dead than it became as lifeless as the piles of dry dust in a school history book.”
—Ellen Glasgow (18741945)
