Southern Extension
As part of the Forth Replacement Crossing scheme, the M90 will be extended by another 5.4 miles (8.7 km) south over a new cable-stayed bridge to Scotstoun Interchange and its junction with the A90.
It is also likely that, as part of the Forth Replacement Crossing scheme, the 4.2 miles (6.8 km) long M9 spur north of the expanded Junction 1a will be renamed as the M90, connecting the motorway to the rest of the UK motorway network over fifty years after the first section of M90 opened in 1964.
