Lyndale Park - Thomas Sadler Roberts Bird Sanctuary

Thomas Sadler Roberts Bird Sanctuary

Primarily a sanctuary for migratory songbirds in the spring, the warblers are the primary attraction. The Minnesota Audubon Society offers free tours every Tuesday at 9a during April and May. It is also a quiet and peacful nature walk in the midst of the city. The main entrance to the sanctuary is in the Lyndale Park Gardens parking lot, and trails through that back of the Peace Garden. Named for Thomas Sadler Roberts, M.D., D.Sc. (1858–1946), Founding Member of the Minneapolis Young Naturalists Society, and the American Ornithologists' Union, and member of the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Famous quotes containing the words thomas, roberts, bird and/or sanctuary:

Was there a time when dancers with their fiddles
In children’s circuses could stay their troubles?
    —Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

Fate, or some mysterious force, can put the finger on you or me, for no good reason at all.
Martin Goldsmith, and Edgar G. Ulmer. Al Roberts (Tom Neal)

The skreak and skritter of evening gone
And grackles gone and sorrows of the sun,
The sorrows of sun, too, gone . . . the moon and moon,
The yellow moon of words about the nightingale
In measureless measures, not a bird for me....
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

He took the props down used for propping open,
And set them up again for propping shut,
The widespread double doors two stories high.
    The advantage-disadvantage of these doors
Was that tramp taking sanctuary there
Must leave them unlocked to betray his presence.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
