Luther Williams Field

Luther Williams Field is a baseball stadium in Macon, Georgia, and is the home of the Macon Pinetoppers of the Peach State League and the Macon State College Blue Storm. It was built in 1929, and is the centerpiece of Central City Park in Macon. Today, it is the second-oldest minor league stadium in the country. The original covered grandstand is still in place, though a new tin roof has replaced the former wooden one. A black iron gate surrounds the field, the front of which says "Macon Base Ball Park."

    At that,
    his small size,
    keen eyes,
    serviceable beak
    and general truculence
    assure his survival—

Give me the splendid silent sun
    with all his beams full-dazzling,
Give me juicy autumnal fruit ripe and red from the orchard,
Give me a field where the unmow’d grass grows,
Give me an arbor, give me the trellis’d grape,
Give me fresh corn and wheat, give me serene-moving animals teaching content,
    Walt Whitman (1819–1892)
