Athletics

Lubbock Christian teams, nicknamed athletically as the Chaparrals, are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC). Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf and soccer; while women's sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball and volleyball.

Recently, Lubbock Christian has been accepted into the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II level; despite that LCU will continue to compete in the NAIA’s SAC during the 2012-13 season, they will join the Heartland Conference in NCAA D-II in the 2013-14 season.

Some noteworthy accomplishments by the sports programs are:

  • Chaparral Baseball won the NAIA World Series in 1983 and 2009, and came in second in 2011;
  • Lady Chaparral Softball won the National Championship the year the program began; and
  • Lady Chaparral Basketball was in the NAIA tournament championship game in 2006, the quarterfinals in 2008 and the Fab Four in 2012.
