The Lowry Hotel is located by the River Irwell in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. Although the five star hotel named after the artist L. S. Lowry is within the boundaries of the City of Salford, it is promoted as "The Lowry Hotel, Manchester". When the hotel first opened Marco Pierre White was the overseeing chef of The River Room Restaurant.
The hotel is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and is owned by The Rocco Forte Collection, the company of Sir Rocco Forte, son of the late hotel magnate Baron Charles Forte.
Famous quotes containing the words lowry and/or hotel:
“Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide for ever,
Flowing by the throne of God?”
—Robert Lowry (18261899)
“...what a thing it is to lie there all day in the fine breeze, with the pine needles dropping on one, only to return to the hotel at night so hungry that the dinner, however homely, is a fete, and the menu finer reading than the best poetry in the world! Yet we are to leave all this for the glare and blaze of Nice and Monte Carlo; which is proof enough that one cannot become really acclimated to happiness.”
—Willa Cather (18761947)
