Lower Burrell is the hometown of Pete Babando, a former player for the 1950 Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. Babando scored the game-winning goal in overtime of game 7 in the series. He also played for the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, and New York Rangers. Babando was born in the Braeburn section of Lower Burrell.

Tom Brown, a former player for the 1987 and 1989 Miami Dolphins of the National Football League grew up in Lower Burrell. Brown played as a running back for the Dolphins.

Congressman Jason Altmire grew up in Lower Burrell, and graduated from Burrell High School.
