Love You (album) - Release and Aftermath

Release and Aftermath

Released on April 11, just weeks after announcing the band's new record deal with CBS, it has been hypothesised the lack of promotion Reprise Records put into Love You was a byproduct of the falling out between artist and label. With the momentum of the "Brian's Back" campaign passing and the surge of commercial popularity for disco and punk, the Beach Boys' commercial appeal had slowed down once more. Peaking at no. 28 in the UK and no. 53 in the US, the album was a moderate success, but weighed against the band's prior chart placements - largely overlooked by mainstream audiences.

Brian Wilson has stated that the album is one of his favourite Beach Boys releases and revealed "That's when it all happened for me. That's where my heart lies." Love You has since developed a cult following and is regarded as one of the band's best albums.

Famous quotes containing the words release and, release and/or aftermath:

We read poetry because the poets, like ourselves, have been haunted by the inescapable tyranny of time and death; have suffered the pain of loss, and the more wearing, continuous pain of frustration and failure; and have had moods of unlooked-for release and peace. They have known and watched in themselves and others.
    Elizabeth Drew (1887–1965)

The shallow consider liberty a release from all law, from every constraint. The wise man sees in it, on the contrary, the potent Law of Laws.
    Walt Whitman (1819–1892)

The aftermath of joy is not usually more joy.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
