Possible Placebo
Many believers experience Lourdes water as helping to improve their health, but there is a risk that sick people may stop taking scientifically based treatments if they have too much confidence in placebos. Saint Bernadette herself said that the water had no healing properties, but that people were healed by their faith and prayers.
