Loreto Mandeville Hall - House System

House System

As with the majority of Australian schools, Loreto features a House System. An important part of the School, Loreto has four houses, three of which are named after Loreto sisters, and one after the foundress of the IBVM. The Houses have several leaders for each Area of the School, such as Music, Sport, Drama and Debating.

The above houses compete in several Interhouse events, including interhouse athletics, cross-country, swimming/diving and aerobics. In the fields of Music and Drama, interhouse drama and the annual Performing Arts Festival are two events on the School Calendar. The PAF is compulsory for all students and this encourages girls to participate in the Music and Drama throughout school life. In Year 12, girls are separated into their house groups for Homeroom classes, allowing House Leaders to work closely together and form friendships.

Famous quotes containing the words house and/or system:

It takes a heap o’ livin’ in a house t’ make it home,
A heap o’ sun an’ shadder, an’ ye sometimes have t’ roam
Afore ye really ‘preciate the things ye lef’ behind,
An’ hunger fer ‘em somehow, with ‘em allus on yer mind.
    Edgar Albert Guest (1881–1959)

While the system of holding people in hostage is as old as the oldest war, a fresher note is introduced when a tyrannic state is at war with its own subjects and may hold any citizen in hostage with no law to restrain it.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)
