Famous quotes containing the words lord, howe and/or pigeon:

    Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the LORD does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.
    Bible: Hebrew, 1 Samuel 16:7.

    Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
    He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are
    stored;
    He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
    —Julia Ward Howe (1819–1910)

    They wait, each like a wooden decoy
    or soft like a pigeon or
    a sweet snug duck:
    until one moves, moves that dart-beak
    breaking over.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
