Loogootee competes in the smallest school level in the Indiana High School Athletic Association, 1A. The volleyball team placed second in the state in three different years in a row. In the past fifty years, the boys basketball program has had only three losing seasons. And in 2012 the lions defeated the Rockville Rocks 55-52 to take home the 1A state champions trophey. The Lions' cheerleaders have two state championships. The school song is the Washington and Lee Sway. The 2011 volleyball team made it to the semi-state championship as well as the 2010 baseball and softball teams. The school's rival is 7 miles away Barr-Reeve highschool. Loogootee's mascot is a lion, and its colors are black and old gold.However, Loogootee has had some respectable ISTEP+ scores, which is a state standards test. For instance in 2010, the Junior High School of Loogootee in, Language Arts, had surpassed the state average which was 72%, by 18%. Math in this same area was surpassed by 15% and Social Studies had surpassedthe state average by 78%. The high school's algebra had surpassed the average by 16%. In the elementary school,ISTEP+ scores surpassed the average in math by 12%, science by 18%, and Language Arts by 11%. Earning the elementary school, according to www.Education.com a 8 out of 10 in intelligence. And the highschool a 9 out of 10 in intelligence.
