Lontara Alphabet - Letters

Letters

The script is divided into two groups, indoq surəq ᨕᨗᨉᨚ ᨔᨘᨑᨛ or inaq sureq ᨕᨗᨊ ᨔᨘᨑᨛ which literally means 'main letters' and anaq surəq ᨕᨊ ᨔᨘᨑᨛ (literally 'child letters). The indoq surəq are the consonants of the script while anaq surəq are diacritic vowel marks which are also divided into two subsets, dots ᨈᨛᨈᨗ (təttiq) and accents ᨀᨛᨌᨛ (kəccəq).

Famous quotes containing the word letters:

The post-office had a great charm at one period of our lives. When you have lived to my age, you will begin to think letters are never worth going through the rain for.
    Jane Austen (1775–1817)

A hunger seized my heart; I read
Of that glad year which once had been,
In those fallen leaves which kept their green,
The noble letters of the dead.
    Alfred Tennyson (1809–1892)

Denotation by means of sounds and markings is a remarkable abstraction. Three letters designate God for me; several lines a million things. How easy becomes the manipulation of the universe here, how evident the concentration of the intellectual world! Language is the dynamics of the spiritual realm. One word of command moves armies; the word liberty entire nations.
    Novalis [Friedrich Von Hardenberg] (1772–1801)
