London Transport Executive - Creation

Creation

On 1 January 1948, under the provisions of the Transport Act 1947, the London Passenger Transport Board was nationalised and renamed the London Transport Executive, becoming a subsidiary organisation of the British Transport Commission, which was formed on the same day. Another subsidiary of the Commission was the Railway Executive (which traded as British Railways), which meant that London Transport and the main-line railways were under the same management for the first and last time in their respective histories.

Famous quotes containing the word creation:

Today, each artist must undertake to invent himself, a lifelong act of creation that constitutes the essential content of the artist’s work. The meaning of art in our time flows from this function of self-creation. Art is the laboratory for making new men.
    Harold Rosenberg (1906–1978)

A fact is the end or last issue of spirit. The visible creation is the terminus or the circumference of the invisible world.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

As a natural process, of the same character as the development of a tree from its seed, or of a fowl from its egg, evolution excludes creation and all other kinds of supernatural intervention.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)
