Engines Built By The Midland
Initially, the Midland concentrated on maintaining and improving the somewhat varied fleet that it had inherited, with the assistance of The Railway Foundry in Leeds. In addition it bought in twenty four of their Jenny Lind locomotives.

Famous quotes containing the words engines and/or built:
“America is like one of those old-fashioned six-cylinder truck engines that can be missing two sparkplugs and have a broken flywheel and have a crankshaft thats 5000 millimeters off fitting properly, and two bad ball-bearings, and still runs. Were in that kind of situation. We can have substantial parts of the population committing suicide, and still run and look fairly good.”
—Thomas McGuane (b. 1939)
“If God had an agent, the world wouldnt be built yet. Itd only be about Thursday.”
—Jerry Reynolds, Sacramento Kings player personnel director. Quoted in Newsweek (New York, November 25, 1991)
