- July 2 – At the end of a VFL match between Carlton and Melbourne at Princes Park, the field umpire was assaulted, pelted with fruit and stones, and had a bucket of water poured over him as he left the ground, while a police officer was punched in the mouth trying to break up a brawl between fans. One fan was arrested for offensive behaviour.
