On August 4, 2006, this map changed again because the 23rd district and its surrounding districts had to be redrawn for the 110th Congress (see Texas's 23rd congressional district). This list and map reflect the districts used for the 109th Congress.

Famous quotes containing the word texas:

During the cattle drives, Texas cowboy music came into national significance. Its practical purpose is well known—it was used primarily to keep the herds quiet at night, for often a ballad sung loudly and continuously enough might prevent a stampede. However, the cowboy also sang because he liked to sing.... In this music of the range and trail is “the grayness of the prairies, the mournful minor note of a Texas norther, and a rhythm that fits the gait of the cowboy’s pony.”
—Administration in the State of Texa, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

The safety of the republic being the supreme law, and Texas having offered us the key to the safety of our country from all foreign intrigues and diplomacy, I say accept the key ... and bolt the door at once.
    Andrew Jackson (1767–1845)

Calling a taxi in Texas is like calling a rabbi in Iraq.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)
