List of The Kings of Georgia - Ancient Kingdom of Iberia

Ancient Kingdom of Iberia

Kingdom of Iberia (იბერიის სამეფო) was a Greek-Roman name of the ancient Georgian kingdom of Kartli in Eastern Georgia which began about 302 BC and fell to the Byzantines and Persians in 580. The lists of early Iberian kings are principally based on early medieval Georgian annals and is blended with legend and fact. Beginning with Artag (1st century BC), many of them are also attested by Roman/Byzantine, Armenian and Persian sources. There is also some lack of consistency about the dates of their reigns. The chronology below is given as per Javakhishvili, Toumanoff and other modern scholars.

Famous quotes containing the words ancient and/or kingdom:

There can be no more ancient and traditional American value than ignorance. English-only speakers brought it with them to this country three centuries ago, and they quickly imposed it on the Africans—who were not allowed to learn to read and write—and on the Native Americans, who were simply not allowed.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)

The private life of one man shall be a more illustrious monarchy,—more formidable to its enemy, more sweet and serene in its influence to its friend, than any kingdom in history. For a man, rightly viewed, comprehendeth the particular natures of all men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
