List of Species in Magic: The Gathering - Lhurgoyf

Lhurgoyf

Native to Dominaria. Large, reptilian creatures, Lhurgoyf are primarily scavengers. They can come in a wide variety of shapes depending on their scavenged sustenance of choice, though all feature the species' distinctive elongated limbs and large, toothed mouths. Females lay incredibly hard eggs, which are occasionally mistaken for gemstones by unfortunate travelers.

In the game, a Lhurgoyf's size is directionally proportional the amount of a certain type of card in graveyards. The original Lhurgoyf features the game's most well known flavor text, a fact that has ensured the Lhurgoyf's endurance as a supported creature type. The last words of Saffi Eriksdotter, "Ach! Hans, Run! It's the Lhurgoyf!" have directly spawned two follow-up cards and a short story in the Monsters of Magic fiction anthology, as well as a coy reference on the card Revenant.
