This is a list of places in Afghanistan. Afghanistan's capital city is Kabul. It is the powerhouse of the Afghan economy and is by far the largest city.

According to 2006 estimates by the Central Statistics Office of Afghanistan, the ten largest cities in terms of population are:

  • Kandahar - 450,300
  • Herat - 349,000
  • Mazar-i-Sharif - 300,600
  • Qunduz - 264,100
  • Taluqan - 196,400
  • Puli Khumri - 180,800
  • Jalalabad - 168,600
  • Charikar - 153,500
  • Sheberghan - 143,900
