Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, phoenix, suns, head and/or coaches:

Every morning I woke in dread, waiting for the day nurse to go on her rounds and announce from the list of names in her hand whether or not I was for shock treatment, the new and fashionable means of quieting people and of making them realize that orders are to be obeyed and floors are to be polished without anyone protesting and faces are to be made to be fixed into smiles and weeping is a crime.
    Janet Frame (b. 1924)

    All is possible,
    Who so list believe;
Trust therefore first, and after preve,
As men wed ladies by license and leave,
    All is possible.
    Sir Thomas Wyatt (1503?–1542)

And there’s a score of duchesses, surpassing womankind,
Or who have found a painter to make them so for pay
And smooth out stain and blemish with the elegance of his mind:
I knew a phoenix in my youth, so let them have their day.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

Since moons decay and suns decline,
How else should end this life of mine?
    John Masefield (1878–1967)

My head gripped in bony vise
    of knees, the writhing struggle
to wrench free, the blows, the fear
    worse than blows that hateful

Words could bring, the face that I
no longer knew or loved. . . .
    Robert Earl Hayden (1913–1980)

The real persuaders are our appetites, our fears and above all our vanity. The skillful propagandist stirs and coaches these internal persuaders.
    Eric Hoffer (1902–1983)
