Matt Mattingly, age 59 of Sonora, California, walked 3,507 miles (5,644 km) in 117 days, from near the Statue of Liberty in New York City to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Mattingly finished his journey on Sept 7, 1990, and wrote about his experiences in his book The Long Walk Home.
