The character of policeman Shane Doyle had a major presence in the soap during 2008, being involved in some high-profile storylines. Shane was something of a bully, and creeped out his colleague, Donna Windsor-Dingle. A disastrous relationship with Jasmine Thomas culminated in him being killed by her. His body was seen at the end of the year, by Victoria Sugden, when she fell through ice into the lake, where it had been dumped by Jasmine and a couple of her friends who helped her to try and hide Shane's death. Shane was introduced by Anita Turner who remained series producer throughout his tenure on the show. He was played by Paul McEwan.
