Cannonball (Samuel Zachary Guthrie) is a mutant in the Marvel Comics universe. The character, created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, first appeared in Marvel Graphic Novel #4: The New Mutants in 1982. Within the context of the stories, Cannonball possesses the ability to release energy from his skin, which he usually uses to propel his body like a rocket. He has been a member of many heroic teams, including the New Mutants, the Hellions, and the Avengers.
