Sor Juana Ines De La Cruz
(1651–1695) There is question on the year of de la Cruz's birth, but no one questions that she was a self taught Mexican scholar and writer who lived in a viceroy's court until entering the convent to become a nun in 1668. Her writing focused on freedom in regard to race and gender.
