- 6 February 1809, the Newnham on Severn to Arlingham Passage ferryboat sank in full view of people on both banks of the Severn. Two boatmen on board drowned.
- February 1868, At the bridge over the Severn at Caersws an approach embankment, damaged by flood water, collapsed under a train. The driver and fireman were killed.
