- World Rubber Day – September 12 – In September 1909, the chemical engineer Fritz Hofmann received a patent for inventing the first "method for manufacturing artificial rubber." To mark the 100th anniversary of this patent, the German specialty chemicals company Lanxess organized the first "World Rubber Day" in September 2009.
