List Of CityRail Railway Stations

The CityRail system is an extensive commuter-based rail network centred on the metropolitan area of Sydney and comprises 11 metropolitan lines, 4 intercity lines and 1 regional line. The entire length of railway is maintained by Railcorp which is a state-owned corporation. The network has over 2,060 km of track, extending as far as Newcastle, Dungog and Scone to the north, over the Blue Mountains west to the city of Bathurst, south to Bomaderry-Nowra, and southwest to Goulburn and overall consisting of 307 stations. The CityRail network serves a population of more than 5.3 million which includes the metropolitan areas of Newcastle, Wollongong, Goulburn, Katoomba and Sydney as well as small satellite cities and towns.

The Metro Light Rail which can be interchanged at Central Railway Station is also included in the list; in 2009 CityRail added the light rail line on to all CityRail maps. Most of the CityRail network runs on the surface of suburban areas while some recently constructed and inner city sections will run underground. The network is mainly served by a fleet of double-deck electric multiple unit while some regional and intercity lines are served by single-deck diesel trains.

For a list of permanently closed stations on the CityRail network, see List of closed Sydney railway stations.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, railway and/or stations:

Love’s boat has been shattered against the life of everyday. You and I are quits, and it’s useless to draw up a list of mutual hurts, sorrows, and pains.
    Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893–1930)

Religious literature has eminent examples, and if we run over our private list of poets, critics, philanthropists and philosophers, we shall find them infected with this dropsy and elephantiasis, which we ought to have tapped.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understand—my mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arm’s length.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)

After I was married a year I remembered things like radio stations and forgot my husband.
    P. J. Wolfson, John L. Balderston (1899–1954)
