List of Charlotte Neighborhoods - Center City

Center City

  • Uptown/Downtown: central business district surrounded by Interstate 277, comprising four wards delineated by South Tryon and Trade Streets. First Ward is today home to a sizable mixed-income housing area. Second Ward, formerly known as Brooklyn, was a traditionally African-American neighborhood that was converted in the mid-twentieth century into a city and county government office center in efforts to revitalize the area. Third ward is known chiefly as the home of the Carolina Panthers who play at Bank of America Stadium. Parts of Fourth Ward fall within a registered historic district as one of the few neighborhoods of single-family homes left within the I-277 loop.

Famous quotes containing the words center and/or city:

Louise Bryant: I’m sorry if you don’t believe in mutual independence and free love and respect.
Eugene O’Neill: Don’t give me a lot of parlor socialism that you learned in the village. If you were mine, I wouldn’t share you with anybody or anything. It would be just you and me. You’d be at the center of it all. You know it would feel a lot more like love than being left alone with your work.
    Warren Beatty (b. 1937)

No city should be too large for a man to walk out of in a morning.
    Cyril Connolly (1903–1974)
