Lip Sewing As Protest
On January 19, 2002, nearly 60 detainees in Australia's biggest camp for asylum seekers sewed their lips together in protest over delays in processing their visa applications. The Guardian newspaper reported this. On June 4, 2012, two asylum seekers sewed their lips together in protest against the bavarian and German asylum policies, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reported this.
