Line Of Succession To The Former Nepalese Throne
The line of succession to the Nepalese throne was determined by absolute primogeniture. This meant that the eldest child of the monarch, regardless of gender inherited the throne. In 2006 the Nepalese government proposed adopting absolute primogeniture. The House of Representatives subsequently approved the bill. As per the amended law, a Special Committee under the Prime Minister was to take decisions to the accession to the throne, which had to be passed by the parliament.
The line of succession immediately before the abolition of the monarchy was as follows:
- King Gyanendra of Nepal
- Paras, Crown Prince of Nepal (born 1971)
- Prince Hridayendra of Nepal (born 2002)
- Princess Purnika of Nepal (born 2000)
- Princess Kritika of Nepal (born 2003)
- Princess Prerana of Nepal (born 1978)

Famous quotes containing the words line of, line, succession and/or throne:
“The man of business ... goes on Sunday to the church with the regularity of the village blacksmith, there to renounce and abjure before his God the line of conduct which he intends to pursue with all his might during the following week.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
“What is line? It is life. A line must live at each point along its course in such a way that the artists presence makes itself felt above that of the model.... With the writer, line takes precedence over form and content. It runs through the words he assembles. It strikes a continuous note unperceived by ear or eye. It is, in a way, the souls style, and if the line ceases to have a life of its own, if it only describes an arabesque, the soul is missing and the writing dies.”
—Jean Cocteau (18891963)
“The heart of man ever finds a constant succession of passions, so that the destroying and pulling down of one proves generally to be nothing else but the production and the setting up of another.”
—François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (16131680)
“The angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
—Bible: New Testament, Luke 1:30-33.
