Cross Country
Perhaps the most prominent athlete to come through Liberty is Josh McDougal. McDougal is a 12-time cross country and track All-American and in November 2007 outkicked Oregon's Galen Rupp to win the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship. He has also helped lead the Flames' cross country and track teams to numerous Big South Championships.

Famous quotes containing the words cross and/or country:
“...I learned in the early part of my career that labor must bear the cross for others sins, must be the vicarious sufferer for the wrongs that others do.”
—Mother Jones (18301930)
“It would much conduce to the public benefit, if, instead of discouraging free-thinking, there was erected in the midst of this free country a dianoetic academy, or seminary for free-thinkers, provided with retired chambers, and galleries, and shady walks and groves, where, after seven years spent in silence and meditation, a man might commence a genuine free-thinker, and from that time forward, have license to think what he pleased, and a badge to distinguish him from counterfeits.”
—George Berkeley (16851753)
